Event Details

Part I: Groundwork

Created to provide insights into the sustainability sector and strategies for obtaining a related position, Part I introduces a wealth of information regarding where and how to begin one's career development process. Topics include types of sustainability  careers and educational opportunities, among others. Time is also allotted to answer participant's specific questions during and at the end of the seminar. Participants receive an extensive annotated resource guide to help inform and propel their journeys.

The seminar includes sections on:

  1. What's It All About: Overriding Issues
  2. Who Are You (and Why It Matters): Self Assessment
  3. Finding Your Place: Career Types
  4. Knowing What to Know: Skill Sets
  5. The Psychology of Hiring: Reducing Risk
  6. Foot Meet Door: Getting In
  7. Carpe Diem: Next Steps

This seminar is for anyone looking for a sustainability-related career regardless of length of time in the workforce.

(Watch for Part II: Refining Your Strategy. During this interactive forum, build on the knowledge you gained in Part I. Through in-depth discussion and interactive exercises, identify and overcome barriers, develop and fine-tune career development strategies, and explore specific opportunities and resources.)

Each workshop runs for 3.5 hours. Part I is a prerequisite for all other sessions. Occasionally Part I and Part II are run together as a day-long event. Seminars are relevant for all stages of career development, from early/entry level to transitioning/mid level.

Sustainability Careers Seminars are led by broadly knowledgeable sustainability leader, Peter Nicholson, Executive & Creative Director of the Foresight Design Initiative.
